2017 Winter Events at Chapel on High
May 3, 2017Macqueen’s is again holding its annual winter series of concerts this year for the third time.
Our first event for the year will be held on Sunday, May 7. It features Professor Kevin Brophy who has just returned from 6 months working in the Kimberley to resume his post in Creative Arts at Melbourne University. Kevin is the author of 15 books of poetry and his wry and self-deprecating style is sure to appeal to everyone who attends. He is a congenial, witty poet whose work is always accessible, sometimes beautiful and often presents a surprising slant on life.
Following Kevin will be 10 local poets from the Western District delivering highlights of their work.
Also talking on the day will be Helen Langley, a talented painter of silk. “More by accident than intent I have been captured by the amazing qualities of silk and its ability to give so much pleasure to people and to surprise me whenever I paint,” says Helen.
Tickets are $10.00 and are available from Laffs (Camperdown), Reicha’s (Terang) or on the day. Ticket sales for this May fundraiser will be directed to the mothers of the Kimberley for the education of their children. The event will be followed by an afternoon tea so you can chat to the artists or other attendees.
“My first big break came when I was five years old. It’s taken me more than seventy years to realise that. You see, at five I first learnt to read. It’s that simple and it’s that profound.”
― Sean Connery, Being a Scot
The next event will be July 30. Watch this space for more details.
