3. Dear Kate, I was very sorry to learn that Mary had died. She was a friendly, interesting and gracious lady. I did not meet her often but she was very hospitable when I was first married. My second cousin, Peter was her husband. Makes you a third cousin. I mainly met him in Beaufort where he gave me some good legal advice when I was at school. If I had not been so preoccupied with work and study I would have liked to know you and Mary better. I recall meeting you with her once for morning tea, and was glad you came wth her.
