  6. Kevin (Bristle) was a wonderful mentor to myself and Terror when we joined the RSL. He even compensated that we were Navy.
A fine and true gentleman who regaled us with his tales of his storied Air Force career. His love for his wife and family radiated from him. Our deepest and most solemn condolences to Maree and the family.

  7. A finer man you would not meet.
As a young “questionably” impressionable fella, Mr Murray was extremely respectful, welcoming and had a genuine warmth.
Out of respect, it took me a long time to call him Kevin.
I will never forget being welcomed in to the home & family that Kevin and Maree shared.
My sincere condolences to Maree, Daniella and the greater family.
To my mate Paul, I will share your loss forever.

  8. Twomey mait Kev. Thanks old timer for nearly forty years of mate ship, love and camaraderie that will live with me forever, such as our daily commute together (such fun), being known as Bib & Bub by the higher echelons of 1SD and sometimes laughing so hard we cried,, as well as other occasions to numerous to mention. I’m going to miss you so very much old mate, you are irreplaceable in my heart and I know I’ll see you soon.

  9. Maree and family – we were so sad to hear of Kev’s untimely passing. One of life’s true gentlemen and he was a ‘father figure ‘(at the ripe old age of 20!) to those of us 17-year-olds on the RAAF’s No 986 Recruit Course at RAAF Base Edinburgh, Adelaide, in March 1969. Farewell Kev – and I didn’t mean most of those ‘boxpacker’ jokes! Ian and Julie Gibson, Adelaide

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Kevin. He was an Officer and a Gentleman. Many an enjoyable time with lots of laughs were shared with Kev and Mike Downs at 1SD. Those were certainly the good old days and I remember them fondly.
Heartfelt condolences to the family. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time.

  15. Tribute to WGCDR Kevin Murray

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of WGCDR Kevin Murray. During my time posted to 4 Wing Cadet Branch – Air Force, I had the privilege of serving under his command as Deputy Air Force Liaison Officer.

Kevin was a leader who set the standard. He expected excellence but also gave his people the space and support to rise to it. I remember him often stepping in, not just to guide, but to recognise and back his team when it mattered most. His trust and confidence meant a great deal to me, and I will always carry that forward.

In my own performance appraisal from that time, Kevin described me as a “thoroughly professional military officer whose demeanour and behaviour provides a role model for others to emulate”. That speaks less about me and more about the kind of leader he was — someone who invested in people, who noticed their efforts, and who made sure they knew they were valued.

Kevin’s professionalism, kindness, and friendship made a lasting impression on me, and on so many others who served alongside him. My thoughts are with his wife Maree, family, friends, and all who had the honour of knowing him.

Rest in peace, Sir. It was a privilege to serve with you.
