  1. Happy memories of Elaine and the Horstead family. I remember when Elaine & Thelma decided it was a good idea to have tbeir ears pierced together at tbe Caines home. A teenaged Hazel Brooker, Tbelma’s niece, was the expert. They went shopping to buy gold sleepers, had their ear lobes numbed by ice cubes, then out came the darning needle and half a raw potato behind their lobes. Oh my goodness, the shrieking, screaming and laughter that ensued! I will never forget that day. I was little girl and was so afraid I hid under the table till it was over. I thank Elaine for looking after me as a baby and for keeping in touch with the Ball family all of tbese years. Sleep peacefully lovely lady, xx Joelle xx
